The Honda Accord and the Ford Fusion are two impressive sedans with highly efficient hybrid models that combine the best of the gasoline version with the fuel economy and environmental consciousness of hybrid engines. There are some differences to consider, however, if you're in the market for a new hybrid.
Drivers in Milledgeville, Eatonton, and Sparta can find out the important differences between these hybrid sedans with our 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid vs. Ford Fusion Hybrid comparison.
Performance and Efficiency
The Accord Hybrid is equipped with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle inline-four that produces 143 horsepower. Unlike other systems, the Accord's system has a two-mode hybrid system that uses the engine to power a generator to 181-horsepower electric motors for a net output of 212 horsepower. The Fusion Hybrid also uses a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with a two-motor hybrid system.
The Accord Hybrid has an EPA-rated 47 MPG city, 47 MPG highway, and 47 MPG combined,¹ putting it near the top of the hybrid class. The Fusion Hybrid falls behind the rest, with an EPArated 43 MPG city, 41 MPG highway, and 42 MPG combined.
Accord Hybrid vs Fusion Hybrid: Interior Space
The Accord Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid each seat four to five passengers in comfortable seating. The Accord has a larger backseat, however, with enough space for tall adults to feel relaxed and plenty of elbow, shoulder, and hip room to avoid feeling cramped. The fastback roofline in the Fusion Hybrid cuts into the rear headroom, and its narrow profile makes it difficult to fit three adults across comfortably.
There's a significant difference in trunk space, due to the battery storage for each vehicle. The Accord Hybrid tucks its battery under the rear seats, ensuring that both passenger and trunk space are maximized, providing 16.7 cubic feet of cargo space. The Fusion Hybrid stores its battery in the trunk, which cuts into the available cargo space, leaving 12 cubic feet for you to store your gear.
Honda Accord vs Ford Fusion: Technology
Both vehicles offer plenty of exciting technology, including infotainment systems with large touchscreens, premium audio, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ smartphone integration. The Honda system is easier to use, however, with bright icons, easy-to-read functions, smartphone-like navigation, and physical dials for redundant controls.
Advanced safety features are available as well, including such technology as Active Lane Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Honda Sensing® suite of advanced safety features is included on every Accord model, however, whereas the Fusion only offers its active safety features as options.
