If you're looking for a compact SUV or a crossover, loads of different options are available on the market today. Two of them, the Honda HR-V and the Honda CR-V, have plenty in common and are both excellent choices. But which one is right for your travels around Milledgeville, Eatonton and Sparta?

At Butler Honda, we know you'll want to research every aspect of a vehicle before making a purchase. To help you out, we'll compare the 2018 Honda HR-V vs. Honda CR-V. We'll take a look at seating, cargo storage, infotainment and more.

Performance

Although the HR-V and the CR-V can both be qualified as small SUVs, they differ in terms of power and performance. The CR-V, for instance, has a 1.5-liter base engine as well as turbo and 2.4-liter options available and puts out 190 horsepower. The HR-V, on the other hand, has a larger base engine (1.8 liters) but puts out a maximum of 141 horsepower.

In addition to putting out more horsepower, as a larger vehicle the CR-V also puts out more torque (179 lb-ft compared to the HR-V's 127 lb-ft). Regardless of whether you choose the HR-V or the CR-V, drivers experience zippy acceleration and plenty of engine "oomph."

HR-V vs. CR-V: Seating and Cargo Space

Whether traveling in the HR-V or in the CR-V, passengers will be comfortable, and it doesn't matter if they're sitting in the front or the back. Up front in the CR-V, there are 41.3 inches of front leg room and 38 inches of front headroom with 39.1 inches of rear headroom and 40.4 inches of rear legroom. Numbers for the HR-V are nearly identical all across the board.

Both vehicles also offer an impressive amount of cargo space. Although the HR-V offers slightly less cargo space than the CR-V, 58.8 cubic feet compared to the CR-V's 75.8 cubic feet, it is extremely versatile, offering three different cargo modes: tall, long and utility. You can fold the seats every which way, depending on what you need to haul.

Safety Features

We know safety is one of your top priorities when choosing an SUV. After all, the entire family will need protection and peace of mind. Fortunately, both the HR-V and the CR-V are great picks and come packed with safety features right off the bat.

Regardless of which model you choose, you'll get traction and stability control, which will help you handle the vehicle in less-than-ideal road conditions. You'll also get other features like emergency braking assist, which may help you stop in an emergency by sensing the pressure you're trying to apply to your brake pedal.

Available features for both vehicles include a blind spot warning accident avoidance system, which detects vehicles around you as you drive on the highway and alerts you when one passes close by.
