When
you're looking for a new ride to take you around Eatonton,
Milledgeville, and Sparta, there are a lot of factors to keep in mind.
You need a vehicle that has the interior space you need with reliable
performance you can count on. No matter what your preferences are,
however, fuel economy should always be one of your primary concerns.
Fuel economy is especially important when you opt for an SUV. These massive vehicles are great if you need the space, but they tend to be less efficient than your average sedan. Fortunately, vehicles like the Honda Pilot are working to bridge that gap. Learn more about the gas mileage for the Honda Pilot, and discover if it's good enough for your standards.
Honda Pilot Gas Mileage
To
best understand just how efficient the Pilot can be, you'll have to
dive into the numbers. In most cases, the engine makes all the
difference in terms of fuel efficiency, but every single Pilot comes
equipped with a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine that boasts 280 horsepower.
Even so, not every Pilot model gets the same miles per gallon.
The standard LX trim has a six-speed automatic transmission and earns an EPA-estimated 19 MPG city and 27 MPG highway.1 That trend continues until you reach the final Touring trim. This top-of-the-line version of the Pilot is loaded with extra features, and one of them happens to be an increase to efficiency that comes with the nine-speed automatic transmission. At its best, the Touring offers an EPAestimated 20 MPG city and 27 MPG highway.1
Honda Pilot Drivetrain Differences
While the transmission made a bit of a difference in the Touring trim compared to the rest, whether or not you opt for all-wheel drive can also have an impact. When equipped with Honda's state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive system, the Pilot's MPG takes a hit, earning an EPA-estimated 18 MPG city and 26 MPG highway.1 For many drivers, however, that small decrease in efficiency is virtually nothing compared to AWD capability.
Even
the Touring suffers a similar fate when equipped with AWD. The miles
per gallon decreases in similar intervals, but it remains on par with
the other trims' 2WD models. That means that you can still enjoy
impressive honda pilot fuel economy and AWD capability if you opt for the Touring.
Honda Eco Assist™ System
To further your fuel efficiency when behind the wheel, Honda has equipped every version of the Pilot with the Eco Assist™ System. This handy piece of tech works hard to ensure you're getting the most out of every drop of gas in your 19.5-gallon tank. It monitors your driving patterns and habits, and it gives reports on how eco-friendly they are. This is typically represented by a ring of light around your gauges. When the light is green, your driving patterns are efficient, but if they turn light green or white, you may be engaging in behavior that's limiting your efficiency.
With instant feedback at your disposal, you can monitor your own driving on the fly and make adjustments as needed. Pressing the ECON button, however, can make automatic changes to your Honda Pilot itself, adjusting throttle response and shifting to make driving more efficient. Your performance will be hindered slightly, however, so keep that in mind when planning.
