Though it doesn’t often get bitterly cold in the south, it is always a good idea to prepare for colder temperatures. It seems like in Georgia, we get hit with a terrible winter storm every handful of years, so it is better to be safe than sorry. Right?

At Butler Honda we make taking care of your car in the winter simple. Our Honda mechanics specialize in routine maintenance as well as major and minor auto repairs. To get your car ready for colder weather, let us develop a tailored maintenance schedule that includes standard winter maintenance.

Regular Car Maintenance Matters

Even though Hondas are known for their reliability, regular car maintenance is necessary to maximize performance and improve fuel efficiency. The certified mechanics at our Butler Honda dealership near Macon and Eatonton, will perform an oil change as part of routine auto maintenance to ensure that the engine's various components are properly oiled. Some of the items on the checklist below are a part of your standard vehicle maintenance, which of these (if not all) are you completing regularly to extend the life of your Honda Accord, Civic, Pilot or CR-V

Tire rotation and tread depth check are important components of routine auto maintenance. Winter upkeep requires a little more work. Your Honda will be thoroughly inspected in our service department, including the brake pads, timing belts, spark plugs, heating and cooling system, and the general condition of your windshield wiper blades.

Honda Car Care Advice for Winter – What can I do to make my car ready for winter

At Butler Honda serving the Macon and Milledgeville area, we recommend completing the following items to prepare for incoming winter weather:

- You'll probably use your windshield washer fluid more frequently in the winter. So, ensure your fluids are full before leaving for any holiday travel.

- Check your wiper blades. Your wiper blades should completely clean the window. If not, replace them. If you are driving in snow or ice, consider installing winter wiper blades. These types of blades have a rubber boot which reduces ice and snow buildup. (Not entirely necessarily in middle Georgia, but if you’re traveling up north, it can come in handy) PRO TIP: If freezing temperatures are expected, lift your wipers off the windshield to avoid them freezing to the windshield.

- Create an Emergency Kit: first aid supplies, blankets, flashlights, snacks, and bottled water to keep in your car. You never know when you could be stranded, especially if you are traveling on roads you normally don’t drive on.

- Check your Battery and Lights: In the winter, it's especially important to check your battery's health and make sure your headlights are not dull in order to have the best visibility.
- Check tire tread and tire pressure. Replace any tire that has less than 3/32-inches of tread. - -Check tire inflation pressure more often in winter. As the temperature drops, so does tire pressure—typically by one PSI for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Probably not a huge deal in the south, but something to keep in mind if you are going on a long winter road trip.
